FAQ

Go ahead and ask. We know you have questions!

Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from clients and potential clients.

  1. Is a solar quote free?

Yes, solar quotes are free. We encourage people to do research and shop around for the best possible deal, much as you would when buying a car. There is no commitment should you decide to not go solar or with another company.

  1. How does going solar impact the environment?

Solar energy not only reduces America’s dependency on foreign oil, but it also doesn’t pollute the air or contribute to climate change. Solar energy heats your water, but not the atmosphere. Despite people’s political beliefs, it’s safe to say that we all want to keep this planet livable and healthy for future generations. Solar power is a smart and responsible choice.

  1. Is solar array installation an invasive and time-consuming process?

Not at all, when a company takes the extra measures to ensure a smooth experience! Good installation starts with careful design. Before even going onto your roof, the proper documentation with thoroughly planned steps will be drafted for ease of installation. While the installation is taking place, all work is supervised by a highly experienced foreman who knows how to instruct the team as well as communicate with you, when necessary. Installation is clean, quiet, and tidy—your property is respected from start to finish.

  1. What is the process to get started for going solar?

Sending in your power bill will help us to gauge your energy consumption and customize a solar quote for you. Once the proposal has been set up, we will contact you to set up a site visit to go over the information with you.

  1. How long is the process from start to finish of going solar?

Many factors come into play when it comes to the timeframe of a solar installation. After a contract has been signed with a solar installer, a customer must go through a process of acquiring permits, HOA approval (if one’s home is located where an HOA oversees the community), rebates and tax incentives. At Sol-Up, we handle these types of hurdles for our customers so that the process of acquiring solar is as seamless and painless as possible.

  1. What kind of benefits do I receive from going solar?

Homeowners can get federal financial incentives for going solar. We also provide customers with referral incentives. California electrical rates are among the highest in the United States. A recent study by the U.S. Energy Information Aministration showed that Californians pay nearly 41 percent more for energy than the national average. Along with some of the nation’s best conditions for collecting solar energy, at nearly 18 cents returned per KW, and rising with recent rate hikes, California residents can recoup investment costs in just a few years.

  1. How much does a system typically cost?

Depending on the size of your home and your energy consumption, systems can range from $15 – $30k.

  1. How will having solar panels affect the value of my home?

Going solar will actually increase the value of your home, much like any home renovation.

  1. What are the benefits of buying versus leasing?

When you buy solar panels, you will own the system. Yes, there is a cost associated up front, but there are many financing options available to help offset the costs, as well as rebates and incentives for going solar. Maintenance is not an issue as panels are generally warranted for 25 years and inverters warranted between 15 – 25 years. Should you decide to sell your home for any reason in the future, having a photovoltaic (solar) system will increase the value of your home.

Owning a solar system enables you to reduce or eliminate your monthly power bill entirely. You will also be able to take advantage of any tax credits, rebates or incentives that the state offers. This will help in reducing the cost of the system by up to 50%.

Overall, ownership of a solar system means more money in the pocket for you over the lifetime of the system. Leasing is a good alternative to buying if there are barriers to purchasing, as using renewable energy is always a good thing for the environment either way.

  1. How much will I save on my electricity bills by going solar?

Homeowners can typically see a return on investment within the first year. The amount of savings depends on several factors such as property location, roof size, the electric bill, and the size of your system.

  1. What kind of solar panels does your company use?

Sol-Up uses Sunpreme panels, a bi-facial, frameless panel. This panel is one of the most efficient and innovative panels currently available on the market. It is incredibly durable, light, and high performance. The panels can capture the sun’s energy from front and back, thus optimizing power output. 1. What are the components of a solar power system?

A solar system consists primarily of the solar modules, inverters, and associated balance-of-system components. Inverters are devices that convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) to enable the use of electricity supplied by the solar modules for homes and buildings. Optimizers are connected to each panel and they isolate each panel’s output so that if one should be faulty, it would not affect all the others.

  1. How much support will I receive if my system fails in any way?

Once you become a Sol-Up customer, you become a member of our family. We provide support for inverter failures, system anomalies, and general questions that you might have.

  1. How will the net metering decision by the Public Utility Commission of Nevada (PUCN) affect my power bills after going solar?

All solar customer-generators will receive the same rates and benefits if their applications are submitted for net metering by December 31st, 2015. Currently, the PUCN is considering various solar tariff proposals but have yet to make a decision. The Commission will decide on a ruling by November 18, 2015.

  1. Why is Sol-Up the best choice?

At Sol-Up, we believe in using the latest technology to bring our customers the best products. We also believe in educating the customer about the whole solar installation process so that they can make an informed decision. We don’t believe in guerrilla tactics that pressure you to sign with us by a certain deadline.
